'RECollection: Volume 1' is the very first anthology of hitRECord's work, featuring the contributions of 471 collaborators.

The eight-inch square, cloth-bound tome is a well-crafted and meticulously-designed piece of art. With equal attention given to each medium—video, audio, image, text—this relic of our records is rich in detail and a feast for the senses.

The DVD: A collection of 36 short movies created collaboratively on hitRECord under the direction of—and with some starring roles by—Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You'll find short films, animations, music videos, 'tiny stories' and records from hitRECord's various live events.

The Book: 64 full-color glossy pages filled to the brim with everything you love about your beautiful books: poetry, prose, paintings, photography, comical curiosities, non-sequiturs, bed-time stories and, of course, more!

The CD: Join your DJ RegularJoe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt for all you newbs) as he hosts his 'pretend' radio show — complete with 17 collaboratively-made songs.

I wish everything was like this. Instead of buying a crappy DVD case, you could get a small, cloth-bound booklet detailing the story and the movie's creation. Instead of the cheap jewel-case cd case, you could get a cloth-bound photobook with artwork inspired by your favorite music.

Some people are simple and the cheap cases satisfy them. But I'm more the type of person who appreciates something worth holding. I would totally pay more for that kind of product, mind you it can't be in the hundreds, or even after the fifty dollar mark.

2013: My Resolutions This Year!!!

This is a few days late, but that is because I wanted to be sure of my goals for this year. Now that I am sure of what I want to do, I will share them as research shows that writing them down or declaring your goals make you more likely to finish them. Anyway.....

- Get A Full-Time Job!
So far I only have a part-time job and although it helps me pay the bills, it is not enough for me to live on. I'm a hard worker and I learn quickly, so I would be a great asset to any companies out there. Hopefully, I will find something soon.

- Establish A Routine!
Because of my plans this year, I will need to get more organized and more stringent with myself in regards to what I spend my time on. I know I spend too much time on the internet, so that will have to be cut down quite a bit. If I get a full-time job, that will help me get a routine going because I will have to work around it. So far each of my goals will help the other ones out.

- Write & Publish A Book!
I've always wanted to be a writer. I'll settle for self-published for this year. In the grand scheme of things, I want to become a published author with a publishing house's might behind me.

- Be More Creative!
I plan to devote some time each week to a project that will get my creative juices flowing. Recently I've become a part of an online community where that is encouraged. If I'm able to do that maybe I will start doing something biweekly and so on until it becomes easy for me to do something every day by the end of the year.

I'll be honest and say that when I googled images for "creative", all that came up were pictures that involved rainbows. When I'm creating I feel more like a mad scientist than a happy-go-lucky rainbow.

- Read 45 Books!
This is a step down from what I did last year. I read 61 books! Originally I had a goal of reading 55 books and I was able to up the ante to 60 books in September! That is awesome! But, because of my other goals this year, I have to cut back on something and the sacrifice is reading. (And time spent on the internet. Hopefully, I'll be able to pull myself away from it to get something worthwhile done!)

- Lose Weight!
I am not particularly healthy, so I hope to remedy that this year. My goal is to have a whole new lifestyle change by the end of the year.

When I googled "lose weight", I decided that the pictures of fat people and people happily working out were stupid. So I looked up "feeling awesome" instead, 'cause that's how I want to feel!

- Blog!
As far as the blog is concerned, I've already implemented what I would like to do on it ("Graphic Designer of the Month"), but it is an ongoing project. I appreciate my followers and any help I receive from friends and family alike. I will keep posting the "Typeface Review" on Monday, the "Comic of the Week" on Tuesday, and any book reviews as soon as I finish them.


Halfway through the year, approximately 183 days from now or the 3rd of July, I will post an entry about how I'm getting along with my goals.

There will a town-wide yard sale sponsored by the Womelsdorf Fire Company. They will also be sponsoring a craft show (which I will be at with all of my wares) in the town park.

The Womelsdorf Community Library will be having a book sale from 10 am - 4 pm. $5 a bag (exception: DVDs are $1, and rare books priced as marked).

It is going to happen, rain or shine, so be sure to attend!

Insane Book Art!!!

I don't know if anyone has noticed yet, but I'm kind of a bookish person. I feel they are a better medium than most people realize. There are many things you can do with a computer, but a book has personality!

You sit there reading from a computer no matter how shiny and high-tech and people assume you're addicted to video games, have the personality of a kumquat, or on the other end of the scale, assume you're trying too hard to look high-tech and in the in-crowd. Whereas with a book people assume you're intelligent, sophisticated and possibly weird. But on the other hand they could also assume you're too poor for a high-tech gadget, which would be wrong because books are sometimes pretty expensive.

You also get bothered by people wondering if you could settle a dispute by telling the exact and correct spelling of a certain word. And, of course, it's a word you have never used before and therefore you don't know how to spell it. The computer would be helpful in that exact situation, because then you could look up the Oxford English Dictionary and then you would say, "You're both wrong, it's Latin. Why don't you idiots get a Kindle like a real person!"

But anyway, I wanted to show this amazing artwork by Brian Dettmer! Using "knives, tweezers and surgical tools" he creates sculptural beauties out of old and out-dated resource books. Check it out:


If I had even a tenth of the patience needed to carve out these wonderful pieces.....

The "Modern Painters" one is my favorite! It's just beautiful!
